Parallelogram: The New Album by Mr Sweet
Project Type
Album Recording Session
Date
April 2025
In August 2024, I received an online invitation to join the Orpington-based, Soft Rock / Adult Contemporary band, Mr Sweet. The band (which at that time consisted of: Matthew Hall - Keyboards & Vocals, William Howarth - Bass Guitar & Backing Vocals and Tom Leach - Drums & Percussion) had written songs for a new album (their second in total) and were looking for a guitarist (capable of both lead & rhythm) to join them for the recording of their new album. I was initially given a list of cover songs to learn by artists such as The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and Billy Joel.
In September 2024, myself, Matt and Will met for the first time and we instantly gelled. I joined the band that evening.
I began recording my guitar parts for the album from October to December 2024. Prior to this, I'd been given demos of all the new songs that were going to be recorded, so I could rehearse the guitar parts at home. Most of the time, I just replicated what was on the demo tape, but in the case of 'Half A Man' and the title track, 'Parallelogram', I came up with my own parts that were different to the demo and added more of a melodic rhythm to the track.
(The majority of the guitar parts on the demos were played on a keyboard by Matt Hall)
The recording sessions went along fair easily, with slight alterations to parts being made as we went along. A lot of the lead playing on the album was fairly loose, with a maximum of three takes per song.
The album was released on all digital music streaming platforms on Friday the 18th of April, 2025.
